Gail is a communications professional with a passion for both communications excellence and making things happen.
A lifelong writer, Gail held a series of communication roles between 1995 and 2009 at what is now Verizon Business. This included media relations, executive speechwriting, editing, employee communications, change communications, and crisis communications. Her wealth of experience and expertise she puts down to working both across the business – liaising with human resources, IT, marketing, sales, finance, engineering, customer services, legal and operations – as well as working up and down the business – from boardroom to basement – to get the job done.
While at Verizon Business, Gail regularly advised senior management on the communications strategy and content needed to ensure that everyone from customers to suppliers, the media to employees and the general public were receiving appropriate and timely information as the company transformed.
Early on she established a strong network across the organisation, becoming as one colleague described it the ‘the listening ear of the people with access to the ear of senior management’. This was invaluable in developing concise and meaningful messages for employees consistent with emerging company strategy. And often at short notice.
Gail is a strong believer in...
• keeping things simple
• making it easy to get things done
• establishing relationships from ‘boardroom to basement’
• delivering on time if not before
• using guidelines rather than rules
• being flexible
• consistency and creativity
Often driven by necessity she is adept at designing workflow and process improvements aimed at delivering results on time with ease and professionalism.
